Vacheron Constantin Extremely Rare Stainless Steel and Rose Gold Chronograph with Champagne Dial circa 1945
Vacheron Constantin Extremely Rare Stainless Steel and Rose Gold Chronograph with Champagne Dial circa 1945
This is a stunning Ref 4072 in astonishing condition from 1945. Vacheron Constatin (VC) chronographs of the 1940-1950s period are considered among the most beautiful and high quality watches ever produced by the Swiss industry. Moreover, the two-cases are extremely rare especially when you consider the exceptional condition of this example and the two-tone champagne dial on the watch. Our photos don’t do justice to this piece.
In production from 1938 until the late 1960s the reference 4072 still exudes a highly contemporary elegance. Vacheron Constantin produced the watch with both the rare oval-shaped chronograph pushers, or as found on the present watch, with more modern, rectangular-shaped pushers. Furthermore, the 34mm case featured either a rare flat bezel such as our model or a beveled one. Less than 70 of the model were produced in a combination of steel and precious metals.
This watch is similar to the venerable Patek Ref 130, however the case presents larger and more contemporary on the wrist because of 1. The case size is larger by one mm; 2. The lugs are elongated and give the watch an overall case length of 42.3 mm; and 3. The case is fairly thick at 12.3 mm.
