Rolex Ref 1675 Mark 3 “Radial” Dial, Rare and Desirable Smaller Lume Plots, 1978
The Rolex GMT-Master is, in all its many forms, one of the most famous travel watches the world has ever seen. The watch collecting community continues to show great interest in the GMT-Master vintage references.
Known as the matte radial dial, the Mark 3 was made for only a short period between 1975-1978. It’s an easy model to identify. One needn't scrutinize the fonts to recognize a Mark 3 dial. Rather, look at the lume plots. They are smaller than the those on the Mark 2, and they're placed a bit farther from the track when compared to previous matte dial 1675s. This dial was in short production and in in some ways, it is reminiscent of the earlier 6542s. Factory original all-red 24-hour hand.
Movement is automatic, Rolex 1575, two time zone with 24-hour bi-directional bezel. The watch runs on a 27-jewel movement with a straight-line lever escapement, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and free-sprung monometallic balance adjusted to heat/cold and 5 positions.
This example is in stunning original condition.
