The reference 6265 occupies a prominent place in the history of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, combining robust screw-down pushers with the clean, functional lines of the Oyster case. The present watch, dating from 1971–72, represents one of the more appealing and elusive dial variations of the model.
Its white “Sigma” dial, signed Cosmograph without the later Daytona designation, belongs to a short-lived production window seen only in the 3.0–3.4 million serial number range. This configuration is considered distinctive because only a limited number of Sigma examples were produced prior to the regular inclusion of the “Daytona” signature. The dial itself is outstanding — perfectly preserved with crisp printing, flawless sub-dials, and luminous hour plots that remain full and intact. Under blue light, both plots and hands glow evenly, confirming their originality and uniform aging.
We believe the stainless-steel case has been lightly polished but retains its sharp edges and full proportions. Importantly, the serial and reference numbers remain perfectly legible between the lugs. The bezel, pushers, and caseback are all present as correct for the reference and era.
Completing the package is the original Rolex folded-link Oyster bracelet, reference 7835, with correct 271 end links dated 1971. Collectors will appreciate the scarcity of this original configuration; the bracelet, accompanied by the appropriate end links, is currently valued at approximately $5,000 in today’s market, highlighting the overall completeness of this example.
The watch uses Rolex’s caliber 727, a dependable manual-wind chronograph movement. The timepiece includes its original Rolex presentation box but does not come with papers.
In total, this 6265 stands out as a most original and correct example: an exceptional dial, sharp case with clear serials, and the correct bracelet and components throughout.
