Longines Rare, Cal 12.68z Tre Tacche, Gloss Black Dial, Circa 1940s
Longines Rare, Cal 12.68z Tre Tacche, Gloss Black Dial, Circa 1940s
This extremely rare Longines Tre Tacche is in excellent original vintage condition. The stainless steel case is thick, with crisp lugs and possibly never polished. The case back markings and lugs bear matching numbers 59. The crown is original, oversized and unsigned (as it should be). Inside case back is signed Longines. This watch was recently serviced in Switzerland.
The 33 mm case is “Tre Tacche” which means three notches in Italian, and is the rare strepped bezel variant. The additional thickness of the stepped case gives the watch a larger appearance than 33 mm on the wrist.
The gilt printed gloss black dial is in beautiful condition with an amazing patina: some oxidation has come through the iron base of the dial to the surface, creating a very even “starry night” effect. The sword shaped hands are original. All luminescent material on hands and markers is original with the Arabic numbers showing the puffy aged effect as would be expected.
The movement is the Longines Caliber 12.68z, 17 jewels, 41 hour power reserve, 18,000 beats per hour. The 12.68z movement is mounted on an incabloc anti-shock platform and was an exceptional performer for Longines in 1940-1950s.
Case Diameter: 33mm, 11mm thick, original acrylic crystal.
