Grand Seiko SBGW295 Rare, Urushi Hand-Painted Lacquer Dial, Edition of 500, Circa 2023
Grand Seiko SBGW295 Rare, Urushi Hand-Painted Lacquer Dial, Edition of 500, Circa 2023
New Grand Seiko SBGW295 Limited Edition of 500 pieces is very Japanese, because it is the most unique fusion of modern and traditional. The case uses a special Brilliant Hard Titanium alloy, which is brighter than traditionally matte grey titanium. The modernity of the material is complemented by traditional Zaratsu-polishing that GS is famous for. The case looks like highly polished stainless steel, but the feathery weight of the timepiece gives away the material.
Dial is made by an artisan in Japan specializing in Urushi (lacquer) application. The same artist builds up the hour markers with and the Grand Seiko signage with urushi and then applies 24 Karat gold powder over them. It is the most beautiful color of gold. The dial is breathtaking to behold in person.
Even the strap is special: it is calf leather and fabric, made using a Japanese technique called yoroi-ori (armor weaving) that was once used for making samurai armor. It’s a uniquely soft strap that is meant to be as durable as a samurai’s weapon. The watch also comes with an unused traditional GS strap.
The overall silhouette of the piece is reminiscent of the Ref 3180, GS’s first watch released in 1960. This is one of the most beautiful watch GS has ever made.
Accessories: Full set with all papers, tags, manual, boxes, and the 2 straps that are included with this timepiece.
