Breitling Ref 817 Co-Pilot, Italian Army Issue 1970s
Breitling Ref 817 Co-Pilot, Italian Army Issue 1970s
This is a stainless steel Breitling chronograph in excellent condition issued to the Italian Army helicopter corps circa 1974/1975s. The watch comes with a Maruman flex steel bracelet and its original "Chornometro Da Polso" box with MOD markings, that in itself is extremely hard to find.
This chronograph is a rare reference with no more than 700-800 total watches ever produced. These watches have a Breitling serial number inside the case and a military service engraving on the case back.
The dial is in near mint condition without any discoloration and excellent luminous numeral in tritium. Note that the lume aged differently between the painted numerals and the handset. Over time the numerals turned greenish, whereas the hands turn dark yellow: this is normal and correct for this reference. The original aluminum rotating black bezel is in excellent condition showing minimal wear from normal use around the edges.
This watch runs on 17 jewel, Valjoux 236 movement with a constant second hand and 30 minute chrono registers. The movement is clean and free of scratches and tool marks. The watch keeps excellent time.
These military Breitling watches originally came on a Japanese-made expanding Maruman flex-style bracelet. In addition to the bracelet, our timepiece also comes with a high quality calf leather strap.
