The reference was introduced in four case materials, with the majority in yellow gold. The platinum and white gold 2551s are the most sought after of any Patek Calatrava models. the production discontinued in 1960. The present example from circa 1955 is a 1st series,
This particular watch is further distinguished by the original dial also bearing the signature of the presige Swiss retailer Gubelin.
The Ref 2551 case was made by A. Wenger and it differentiates from its sister reference 2552 because of the downturned stepped lugs. It is believed that approximately 1,100 pieces were encased in its production span of 7 years. approximately 150 pieces per year.
