This is an ultra-minimalist dive watch from the masterful designers at Milan’s Unimatic in a new slim case with a Swiss mechanical movement.

The S-M stands for Slim Minimal, and that means a mere 11.6mm in height for this watch with a 41.5mm diameter. The U1S-M wears comfortably all day long, and even slips under shirt cuffs easily. The distinctive features of the original case remain intact, including handsomely shaped lugs with beveled ends, spring-bar holes drilled through for old-school utilitarian vibes and easy strap changes, and the handsome crown guard mimicking the lugs.

Other details to note are the ample 8mm crown, which makes setting the time not only easy but enjoyable, and the lovely black calfskin strap that completes the monochromatic colorway. There’s also a second nylon “seatbelt” strap included, ready for watery adventures of all kinds.

Also new for this model is the UNIMATIC logo in SuperLumi-Nova luminous paint, giving the watch an extra pop in the dark. Below that is Made In Italy, a rare signage for any watch, and the listed water resistance, impressively 1000ft / 300m.

The Selita SW200-1 movement is an industry-standard auto-winding unit that will run reliably and service easily when the time comes. The movement allows handwinding, which is crucial before SCUBA dives, and the watch ‘hacks” meaning that the seconds hand stops when setting the time for precise calibration to reference time sources. The 26 jewels provide near frictionless performance with accuracy typically between +/- 12 to 30 seconds per day.
