Rolex Submariner “Kermit” 16610LV 2008, mint condition, discontinued model
In 2003, Rolex marked the 50th anniversary of the Rolex Submariner with the launch of the Ref 16610LV. Better known to collectors as the Rolex Kermit. Before that, the GMT-Master series was the only sports model to have a non-black bezel. Even with the GMT, the use of color served a functional purpose. Not to be confused with the green on green Hulk model, this is the discontinued anniversary Kermit model which is the nicer and more collectible Submariner model.
Compared to the current production Hulk, the bezel is lighter in dimension and weight, brighter and more eye catching. The bezel also stands in very strong and beautiful contrast to the black dial. The insert is aluminum, which means over time these Kermit bezels will fade and age, each developing their own unique character. Unlike the Ceramic models, which will look exactly the same 50 years from now.
The profile of the Kermit Oyster case is slimmer and lugs are tapered to ensure a comfortable fit on the wrist. In fact, it is one of the best proportioned Submariners ever designed. Later variations of the Submariner would introduce the larger so-called “Super” case. The Rolex Hulk doesn’t only take its name from the fact it’s all green. If you compare it side-by-side with the Kermit you will notice it is a bulkier watch.
Finally, the Kermit comes on hollow link oyster bracelet made of brushed 904L stainless steel, with solid end links giving it a bit more weight on the wrist. The middle links on the Kermit are not shiny polished like the later Rolex sport models, which in our view gives the watch a more classic look.
Our vintage 2008 watch comes with Box and Papers, and it is presented in nearly unused condition.
