Description
This is a great example of the Rolex Ref 1675 GMT Master Glossy Gilt Printed Dial, Pepsi (fuchsia) Bezel with “fat font” from 1965. Correct 24 hour hand with the desirable small arrow. Rare and original stainless steel jubilee bracelet with large Rolex crown logo.
The 40mm case is in nice vintage condition without any deep scratches or dings. The lugs are strong and retain their original shape. The case was perhaps polished lightly in the last 55 years, but the beveled edges are still full and retain their shape. Serial and reference numbers clearly visible on the side of the case.
Case back is original, with clearly legible stamps indicating reference number 1675 and manufacture date Second Quarter of 1965. The crown guards are pointed which is consistent with the early GMT. The crown guards retain their original shape.
The glossy gilt printed dial is the highlight of this watch. The dial is perfect with beautiful matching patina between tritium hands and dial elements. Silver date disk with matching patina has open 6’s and 9’s. The hands are original and the GMT hand is the early and rare small arrow type in perfect condition. Original Pepsi insert in excellent condition with very minor surface scratches and nice fuchsia color to indicate daylight.
Movement is automatic, Rolex 1575, two time zone with 24 hour bi-directional bezel. The watch runs on a 27 jewel movement, 19,600 vph, with a straight-line lever escapement, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and free-sprung monometallic balance adjusted to heat/cold and 5 positions. The movement is clean and unscratched.
This is simply the nicest vintage GMT I have personally owned. Comes with box.
